North Wilkesboro has been the home to the Wilkes Regional Medical Center since the building opened in 1952. The 130 bed hospital includes a 10 bed skilled nursing unit and the family-focused New Beginnings Birthing Center where newborns may share rooms with their families 24 hours a day. Physician specialties include anesthesiology, cardiology, medical imaging, emergency medicine, ENT, family practice, gastroenterology, internal medicine, nephrology, neurology, obstetrics, gynecology, ophthalmology, pathology, pediatrics, psychiatry, general surgery, orthopedic surgery, vascular surgery, and urology. West Park Medical Plaza
The Medical Center is aided in its commitment to the health of Wilkes County by its subsidiaries and affiliates in the nearby West Park Medical Plaza. Formerly a shopping center, the Plaza began its conversion to the medical services sector in 2000. WRMC's lauded home care and hospice program, which employs over 200 nurses and health professionals, is housed in the plaza. The medical center's diagnostic imaging, rehabilitation, wellness, dialysis, and family centers are also located at the plaza. West Park Pediatrics, a three physician practice, is owned by the hospital and located in the plaza. For their patients' convenience, West Park Pediatrics offers unconventional hours, including evenings and Saturdays.
The Health Foundation Inc.
The Health Foundation Inc. plays a pivotal role in maintaining the health standards of Wilkes County. The independent not-for-profit volunteer organization has worked with WRMC since 1991 to help provide the family center, dialysis center, the Wilkes County Public Health Dental Clinic, the mobile dental unit , and the Ruby Purdue Blackburn Adult Day Care Center.
